The sugarcane decaffeination process is a natural, eco-friendly method that preserves the flavour and aroma of coffee while removing caffeine. This appealing choice for decaf coffee lovers begins with extracting juice from crushed sugarcane, which is fermented to produce ethanol. Ethanol is then combined with acetic acid to form ethyl acetate, a natural solvent used in decaffeination.
Green coffee beans are steamed or soaked to become porous before being immersed in the ethyl acetate solution. This solution bonds with the caffeine molecules, extracting them from the beans. After extraction, the beans rest to allow the separation of the caffeine-ethyl acetate mixture, which is then removed.
The caffeine and ethyl acetate can be separated and the ethyl acetate reused for future processes, enhancing sustainability. The beans undergo a thorough drying process to remove any remaining moisture and are subjected to strict quality control to ensure they meet flavour and aroma standards.

The Perfect Evening Companion: Bean Voyage Decaf

After years of reluctantly giving up my evening coffee ritual (thanks, insomnia), I finally found a decaf that doesn't feel like a compromise. Bean Voyage's Decaf Colombian is genuinely impressive—something I never thought I'd say about decaf coffee.

What really surprised me was how fresh it tastes. Many decafs seem stale right out of the bag, but these beans produce a vibrant cup with aromatic qualities I'd expect only from regular coffee.

If you love coffee but need to limit caffeine, this is genuinely worth trying. It's easily the best decaf I've found, and I've stopped feeling like I'm missing out on the real coffee experience.
